Why IEC is the future

I’ve been selling digital goods forever. I hadn’t really thought about it before. It wasn’t a conscious choice, it was just what I did and this was the new way I had to do it. It’s been a long time though, probably amongst the pioneers of selling ‘big’ products into a small market, the inverse of the situation with music itself. Of course you hit the problems of data size and have to be a bit more creative, or at least try to be, to create awareness. I’ve used many systems over the years, they’ve all worked OK, up to a point, but none of them did everything. In fact all of them didn’t allow me to do most of things I wanted to do with them - generally the most interesting things, the ones I really wished I could. Many of the issues that stopped me were technical ones of course, however there were fundamental issues with ‘the way the internet is’ that also got in the way. It was this experience that has laid the foundations for DropSwitch. The belief in and need for Interactive eCommerce (IEC) that DropSwitch delivers for the first time.

The internet is global, that’s great in many ways, but it’s also a problem. Geographical boundaries are broken down and no one has a ‘patch’ of their own now. A business now really has to sign up to a global solution like the Mac App Store, although of course that has its own issues and doesn’t serve the PC too much for a start, or ‘go it alone’ and market and support a product range direct, globally. This is a major endeavor, not to be taken lightly. A quantum leap on from working with your regional distributors as you used to. Will you promote your product as they did? Will you support it as well? Will you be able to create any synergies with other products that they could? Can you build the relationships they had with local retails from scratch? Does your product matter enough by itself to anyone? These are all hard questions to answer and hard questions to ask yourself too. Whatever the answer though I think the best solution will rarely, if ever, be to try it and find out for yourself. To throw yourself headlong into the unknown with no ‘get out’ clause. To avoid this you need a diverse web strategy and to engage in IEC. This has been previously slow and/or impossible - DropSwitch is built to make it instant, automatic, to make it not only possible but almost unavoidable to work together, effectively and smarter than ever before possible.

We built DropSwitch almost without realizing this, organically, at every step of its creation. IEC is in the heart of DropSwitch, in it’s DNA because it’s in ours too.
